Jordan is basically my second home outside of the US - I've lived there off and on since 2004, and know it pretty darn well. It's been interesting to see how the Arab Spring is playing out there, and I think this article does a really great job of describing it. If Syria falls, Jordan may just be next. Palestine is looking more stable by the day! (just kidding, hahaha)
In other equally interesting news, Israel is really doing some nutso things these days in terms of public policy, democracy, and freedom of the press and women, all making it look more and more like some of the 'fundamentalist' states that it decries rather than the liberal democracy it claims to be. You can read more about that here - including such things as extremist religious policy being enacted in the classroom, women's rights being curbed, and freedom of the press being actively and intentionally compromised. Unlike the Arab world, which is trending toward democracy, Israel is on a different, and more frightening, tack.
