There goes the neighborhood

King of Jordan just sacked the cabinet...what a time, what a time. Being here is exceptional-- all anyone can talk about is Egypt, and now this:

I think most Palestinians are just marveling at the power of protest in seemingly any country but theirs. Will it spread to here? My cabbie this morning said he thinks Yemen and Syria next...but now this!

  2. Michael,

Great questions! Yes, many countries do have kings, though their power varies. In the Arab world, a lot of the royalty exists because of the break up of the Ottoman Empire and the end of colonial times, when the royalty (whomever they may be), were throned thanks to their regional power and relation to the Prophet (pbuh).

Al Jazeera is the finest news source out there for coverage of stuff in Arabia. Not racist at all. Kicking butt at reporting on this stuff, in fact.

And, what is going on is called revolution!!
